The Meeting Place
The mysterious meeting place is the Challenge Dam in Batavia, IL. Shrouded by the fog, the wintering geese and ducks gather (or meet) on a precarious ice flow just above the dam. The meeting place may be gone soon as the state of Illinois may not replace the old, ailing structure. Breaches in its wall are evident in this photograph. The veiled building in the background is the old Challenge Windmill factory. The dam provided the power to generate electricity for production. It was important to the economic well being of the community. It provided jobs and income for hard working people. It is an important part of Batavia's heritage. Batavia is known as the Windmill City and has recovered many Challenge windmills from around the country, restored them, and resurrected them along The River Walk where this photograph was taken. This image was accepted into the Professional Photographers of America 2003 General Exhibition in international print competition. The exhibition was held in Las Vegas, NV. |

Please be aware that the actual print will vary somewhat in color, tint, and contrast from the image you see on your monitor. A variety of factors cause this; among those factors is monitor calibration and the fact that a monitor projects light where a print reflects light. Your purchase is guaranteed to please you or you may return it for a refund.
