Jewel of the Valley

St. Charles, IL

John F. Kennedy, Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, Gerald Ford, Billy Graham, and Lawrence Welk are some of the famous people who have visited the Hotel Baker. Since 1928, the Hotel has crowned the historic central business district of St. Charles, IL. It is an intimate and classy inn of 55 rooms including a rooftop penthouse suite. The famous two-level Rainbow Room has an illuminated glass-block dance floor. The lobby surrounds visitors with marble floors, dark, rich woodwork, and brass fixtures. One can imagine the well-heeled patrons of the past dressed in furs, jewelry, white gloves, and straw hats and dancing the “Charleston.” Between 1930 and 1950 it was nicknamed “The Honeymoon Hotel.” The Hotel Baker has history, elegance, and romance.

When it opened in 1928 it was referred to as "the jewel of the valley". It was designed by the Chicago architectural firm Wolf, Sexton, Harper, and Trueax. It is an example of Moorish Revival architecture and features a Romantic Revival interior.

There was a chill in the early morning air as the sun broke over the Municipal Building which is on the opposite side of the Fox River from the Hotel Baker in St. Charles, IL. At the time this was taken, the Hotel Baker was in the glory of its recent renovation. It is still "the jewel of the valley".

Please be aware that the actual print will vary somewhat in color, tint, and contrast from the image you see on your monitor. A variety of factors cause this; among those factors is monitor calibration and the fact that a monitor projects light where a print reflects light. Your purchase is guaranteed to please you or you may return it for a refund.
