awaiting the blessing of the hounds
The air was filled with lazy Autumn dryness. The sun was warm. Brown leaves, pushed by a light breeze, skipped across the sidewalk. In the historic, equestrian community of Wayne, IL the young acolyte at the door of the church looks back and forth as she awaits the arrival of the hounds. As is custom on this special October morning, the fox hunt is preceded by a ceremonial blessing of the hounds. Shortly after this picture was taken hunters arrived atop their mounts and presented the hounds. The pastor blessed them and prayed for a safe hunt. (Wayne is a beautiful community that is adjacent to the city of St. Charles. I took the liberty of placing it in the St. Charles grouping because it is the only image I have of Wayne.)
