Solo Exhibit in France

About 100 people, including a member of France’s Parliament, a French Senator, and three mayors, gathered for the artist’s reception at Brian DeWolf’s photography exhibit in Croissy sur Seine, France on May 15, 2009.

The scene was the enchanting 13th century chapelle St. Leonard.  35 French images hung along the gothic stone walls. Additionally, banners showing some of DeWolf's other work from Italy, England, and the United States hung from the ceiling.  Banquet tables with hors d'oeuvres and wine added to the event.

DeWolf has an ongoing project to photograph this area known as the cradle of Impressionist Art.  He was initially invited by the organization Croissy san Frontieres to photograph the Croissy area in the style that earned him recognition in the Fox River Valley of Illinois.  This enthusiastic reception inspires him to expand his work here.

Shown below (from left to right) are Ghislain Fournier the mayor of Chatou, Aline Pascal mayor of Bougival, French Senator Alain Gournac, Pierre-Roger Davin the Mayor of Croissy, Pierre Lequiller a member of the French National Assembly, Karin de Marco of Croissy sans Frontieres, Brian DeWolf, Veronique Defour representative of the city of Croissy, Jony Garner of Croissy sans Frontieres.

DeWolf told the audience that his work was part of a larger effort by Croissy sans Frontieres and Geneva’s International Cultural Exchange Committee to bring people together in the spirit of friendship and learning.  He said he was pleased if his work could remind residents to the beauty of their own countryside and culture.  It is a beautiful and marvelous area with so much history, specifically art history, and vibrance. They love life and love to celebrate living.

His exhibit dovetailed into Croissy’s annual festival celebrating the birth of French Impressionist Art.  Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley, and other impressionist artists painted many pictures in Croissy and surrounding communities. “The Path of the Impressionists” is identified with monuments at the locations where the artists painted their famous pieces. Four American artists painted in the festival competition and took two awards.

Old Home Journal

I had the privilege of photographing a very special rehab of a home in the historic district in Geneva, IL.  The photos are documentary rather than art and I had fun doing it. Some of the pictures have been published in Old Home Journal August/September 2011 issue.  Click on this OHJ link and read about this ambitious energy-efficient project.

Photographer of the Year Award

Brian DeWolf of Batavia, IL has earned a Bronze Level Photographer of the Year Award 2008 from Professional Photographers of America (PPA).  Photographer of the Year presentations were made at PPA’s annual convention, Imaging USA, in January in Phoenix, AZ.

2004 was the inaugural year for PPA’s Photographer of the Year Awards.  They were developed as a way to encourage photographers to improve their artistic and technical skills and demonstrate their talent through competition, as well as a way for the public to discern the best of the best.

“These awards are among the most prestigious in the industry,” confirms PPA Print Exhibition Committee Chairman Helen Yancy.  “The recipients of these awards have proven the quality of their work on a consistent basis in one of the highest quality image competitions in the world, PPA’s International Print Competition.”

A PPA member earns a Bronze Level Photographer of the Year Award by placing all four images included in their print case in PPA’s renowned General Collection – an incredible accomplishment.  In 2008, Brian DeWolf was one of only 54 Bronze Level Photographers of the Year.

PPA, a worldwide association, exists to assist its more than 20,000 members in achieving their professional, artistic and fraternal goals, promote public awareness of the profession, and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science, and a visual recorder of history.
